This concert presents a musical journey around Europe from the 18th century to the first half of 20th century. There are waltzes from the Viennese brothers Johann and Joseph Strauss; an aria from Don Giovanni that Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart premiered at the Prague Opera in 1787; arias from the operas Il Barbiere from Seville (1813) and L’Elisir d’amore (1832) from the Italians Giochino Rossini and Gaetano Donizetti; an aria from the opereta Die Lustige Witwe (The Merry Widow, 1905) written by the Austro-Hungarian Franz Léhar; an intriguing waltz composed in 1938 by the Russian Dmitri Shostakovich and popularized by the film ‘Eyes Wide Shut’ by Stanley Kubrik in 1999. Last but not the least, we will hear three songs by three composers born under the Neapolitan sun: Luigi Denza (Funiculì, Funiculà, 1880), Eduardo di Capua (O sole mio, 1898) e Ernesto de Curtis (Non ti scordar di me, 1912).
