A tribute to the great north-american musician by soloist elements of the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra

Frank Zappa (1940-1993), self-taught composer, singer, recording producer, graphic designer, film and television director and activist was surely a 20th century music genius. Throughout a career that spanned over 30 years his work mainly inspired by Varèse, Stravinsky and Webern, has also strong influences of modern jazz and freak music. Distinguished for its musical virtuosity, collage, improvisation and sound experimentation, there is in his music a consistent appeal to unconventionality against north-American culture. A Tribute to Frank Zappa will revisit some Zappa’s music played by soloists of Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa that formed a band in 2011 to perform at the Zappamundo 3rd Edition – Frank Zappa International Music Festival. Since then the band has performed in many concerts the music of this remarkable north-American composer.

Brass Factory

Established since 2011 as Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra Soloists, Brass Factory performed at the third edition of Zappaworld — International Festival of Frank Zappa Music. Since then Brass Factory performed Frank Zappa music in so many stages. In 2016 Brass Factory added a guitar to their musical set, thus creating a very characteristic and personal sound, similar to the bands that played with Frank Zappa. After several concerts a first album has been recorded, with some of the best themes from Frank Zappa, in a tribute full of rythm and colour
